OUR BUSINESS

History of Marque d’or

We can trace our history to back 1929, when two young men originating from Europe became partners to produce corporate seals and stamps. Marque d’or truly began when their respective sons became partners in 1959 to develop, manufacture and sell minute books. Marque d’or would grow significantly in 1979, following the privatization of the corporate name search by the Federal government, and in 1982 when it amalgamated with CEJ, a business specialized in legal services.

Our modern era thus started with the amalgamation of Marque d’or and CEJ. Since then, the founders (David Saltzman – 1959-2002) have retired and have been replaced by a second generation consisting of Me James Smith, Bryan Haley, Me Marc Guénette, Josée Lacroix and Lisa Saltzman

Evolution of our business

From the production of books and seals, Marque d’or graduated to providing high quality legal services with the help of computers, which are at the heart of our evolution. This systemization effort started in 1991 and required significant investment (over 14 million dollars). Today, our technology is recognized as one of the most advanced ones in the world, especially when it comes to trade-mark search and computer-assisted translation.

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (“CIPO”) chose Marque d’or for the second time to execute their trade-mark prior rights searches before registration. Moreover, CIPO now uses our unique technology to classify trade-marks and to translate trade-mark wares and services software.

Both CIPO and our national and international clientele use our computer programs to research a significant number of trade-marks. Our classification system is superior to the one used before by CIPO and our computer-assisted translation has reduced their previous costs by more than 50%. Overall, CIPO’s delays and services have improved with the help of our faster execution time and the quality of our services. Our technological advances greatly benefit our other clients.

Our Staff

This evolution of our services is due to our multidisciplinary team comprised of several doctorate and master holders, computer specialists, linguists, translators as well as lawyers and paralegals. Overall, we have nearly one hundred employees located in three different buildings (they will soon be brought together).
